The Berkey Light® water filter is a lightweight unit designed specifically for outdoor activities such as camping, sports, travel and unforeseen emergencies. It is also ideal for a summer kitchen or pool house.

The Berkey Light® can also be an excellent choice of home water purifier if you're looking for high capacity. In fact, it offers a higher capacity than an equivalent stainless steel model such as the Big Berkey®, while being more affordable for those who prefer an economical water filter with a higher capacity.

Simply pour water into the system's upper tank and easily dispense pure water from the lower tank's tap.

The 2 Black Berkey® filters included with your system can purify up to 22,700 liters of water. To calculate the lifespan of your Black Berkey® filters, please consult our FAQ.

By adding 2 more Black Berkey® filters to your Berkey Light®, you can achieve a filtered water production of approximately 26.5 liters per hour.

The volume of each model refers to the capacity of the lower tank. The upper tank is smaller because of the volume of the filters (approximately 1 litre per pair). As a result, the advertised volume corresponds to the quantity of filtered water that can be stored in the lower tank. Find out more...

    Are there any phthalates in the Berkey Light® water filter?

    No, there are no phthalates in the chambers of the Berkey Light® system. Berkey® plastics are made from copolyester and are guaranteed BPA-free.

    Additionally, the Black Berkey® purification element reduces certain phthalates, including butylbenzyl phthalate and diethyl phthalate.

    What are Berkey Light® systems made from and do they contain Bisphenol A (BPA)?

    Since 2008, the Berkey Light® has no longer been made from polycarbonate as it was before, but from a copolyester (thermoplastic polyester elastomers) that does not contain Bisphenol A. It is also very strong, resistant to scratches, stains, shocks, and odors.

    What maintenance is recommended for the Berkey Light® water filter?

    The Berkey Light®, like all other Berkey® water purification systems, requires minimal maintenance.

    It primarily involves occasional cleaning: we suggest washing the lower chamber once a month with soapy water (dishwashing liquid). In areas with hard water, lime deposits may accumulate on various parts of the system after prolonged use. To remove them, soak the affected parts in vinegar or a 50-50% mixture of vinegar and water for about 15 minutes. Finish by cleaning with soapy dishwater, then rinse.

    After prolonged use, the flow rate of your system may decrease. To remedy this, simply scrub the outside of each Black Berkey® purification element with a stiff brush or ScotchBrite® pad and reprime the elements*.

    What are the advantages of a Berkey Light® water filter compared to a stainless steel water purifier?

    The Berkey Light® water filter is very popular because it is portable, lightweight, and transparent. The Berkey Light® also has the advantage of having a large storage capacity of over 10 liters of filtered water. Its base, which elevates the system, allows the spout to be naturally higher than on other systems, making it easy to place a glass underneath.
