Step 1 - Choose the System Capacity

Based on Your Needs

Berkey® water purifiers come in seven different sizes. Many things should be taken into consideration when choosing your system: the space you have and the number of people in your household, and for what purposes you will be using this pure water for (drinking water only or also for cooking, personal hygiene, pets, etc.).

How to Calculate the Capacity you need?

For regular daily use, multiply the number of people in your household by 1.9 liters. In an emergency setting, double this capacity for the same number of people, either by opting for a system with a larger volume or by filling your Berkey® filter more often. This will help you calculate the minimum recommended amount of water you will need for daily use.

For example, if you are a family of: 4 x 1.9 liters equals 7.6 liters in total, plus any additional water used for cooking or other purposes. You would therefore opt for the Big Berkey® 8.5L model.

Step 2 - Choose the Number of Black Berkey® Filters

Berkey® systems are delivered with 2 Black Berkey® purification elements as standard (except for the Go Berkey® kit which only has one filter). Each additional set of 2 filters reduces filtration time and increases the lifespan of the filtering elements.

Refer to the table below for the possible configurations for each system. Please note that you can order Black Berkey® purification elements whenever you want. We suggest always having an extra pair in case of emergencies.
